![]() This award tips its hat to The Mad Hatter Restaurant, putting it in the top 10% of restaurants, worldwide. ![]() It’s no wonder the restaurant won the prestigious Tripadvisor 2021 Traveler’s Choice Award. The flavors and textures were better than expected. It’s the closest I’ve come to heaven on a plate. Not to be outdone, they were served with rich and creamy mashed potatoes, made-from-scratch. Dayboat Scallops, Mad Hatter, Sanibel Island, Fla.ĭayboat Scallops: When the waitress tells you to get the scallops at a fine dining institution, you do as she says! Three big, beautiful scallops filled the plate and melted in my mouth. There was an amazing flavor I couldn’t place, and devoured the side dish trying to figure it out. ![]() The parmesan-horseradish grits brought this to the next level. No knife needed the meat falls away with the touch of a fork. If I’m at a restaurant and see it on the menu, odds are I’ll order it. Short Ribs and Horseradish Grits: Red wine-braised short ribs is a staple family meal back home during the cold Minnesota winters. Dinner Short Ribs and Grits, Mad Hatter, Sanibel Island, Fla. The sweet garlic and cheese make a delicious pair. It comes with two roasted garlic bulbs, grapes and several pieces of crostini with cool brie cheeses placed on top. Fresh as can be, the crab meat practically melted in my mouth. The menu selection was, as usual, varied and outstanding: from foie gras to filet mignon, we've never had a dish we didn't absolutley love. The staff was also very accommodating of my youngest daughter's particular ways, and served her dishes with all sauces on the side, customized exactly to her liking. The staff always seems to strike the perfect balance between attentive and unintrusive: they're knowledgeable about each menu item, offer recommendations freely, anticipate your drink refills before you even have to ask, and bring little "extra" tastings from the chef for you to try in between courses.įor once, I didn't obsessively take photos of every single thing we ate, but trust me, it was all absolutely wonderful. We went on a special night-my 49th birthday. (I honestly thought she'd eat nothing but bread all night-I was wrong!) Our youngest daughter is 16, and although she's a very picky eater, we crossed our fingers and hoped for the best. ![]() This year, though, we decided that it was finally time to bring all three girls to experience dinner at The Mad Hatter. We'd get the kids all set up with food (and a babysitter, when they were younger) back at the house, and enjoyed a delicious, upscale meal and attentive service that could compete easily with any fancy New York City restaurant experience, but with a sunset beach view and casual, friendly atmosphere. My husband and I love dining at The Mad Hatter-it has traditionally been our choice for "date night" dinners when we've vacationing on Captiva.
